Preparing your mind and body for the summer

Preparing your mind and body for the summer

When summer is just around the corner, you need to begin preparations for your mind and body to stay healthy even as you're raring to go out and enjoy the sun. This summer is likely to come with some challenges and will be unique, too. With COVID-19 still looming, you'll need to adapt your approach to healthy summer living.

Eat nutritious food

Sticking to a healthy diet is a basic requirement to stay healthy and ready for enjoying life outdoors with COVID-19 still around. By ensuring you have a balanced intake of both macro and micronutrients, you are fortifying your body's natural defences and your ability to manage stress.

You can also supplement with FeverMates Medlab products to ensure adequate nutrient intake and boost your immune system.

Maintain social distancing for a healthy summer

Current guidelines state that you should remain 1.5 metres away from other individuals. This doesn't apply to those you live with but is necessary if we're going to reduce the spread of the virus. Being able to see people is good for your mental health, but it's always necessary to do it sensibly.

In addition to maintaining social distancing, wear a mask. Many people prefer to use reusable masks, as they're kinder to the environment. Fabric face masks come in a range of fun designs. As a result, you can choose yours to match your outfit and enjoy a summer that's both healthy and stylish.

As many public places now require the use of a face mask, it's a good idea to carry spares. Place a couple in your purse, car, or backpack. That way, you'll be able to enter public places while staying safe. You can also use FeverMates cooling patches for relief in case you develop thermic fever or sunstroke.

Practise excellent hand hygiene

Hand hygiene has always been important. But during a pandemic, it becomes even more so. As the warmer weather emerges, you may find yourself spending more time in public places. As a result, you need to maintain proper hand hygiene while on the move. Strengthening your hand hygiene techniques may also reduce any anxiety that comes with spending time in public places.

The best way to keep your hands clean is by washing them for at least 20 seconds. We recommend carrying a small bottle of handwash just in case you find yourself falling short. Additionally, take hand sanitiser wherever you go. Although it shouldn't act as a replacement for washing your hands, it can help you kill bacteria and viruses when you don't have access to soap and water.

Stay hydrated while outdoors

One of the greatest perks of the summer is being able to exercise and spend more time outdoors. In addition to exercise boosting your mental well-being, it'll enhance your immune system. During the pandemic, you may feel more comfortable exercising or practising mindfulness meditation outside, too. Although this could reduce your risk of catching the virus, it does mean you're likely to lose more body fluids in the beating sun.

Before exercising outdoors, make sure you drink a decent amount of water. Additionally, fill your water bottle up and stay hydrated throughout your fitness session. To ensure you don't lose fluids rapidly, avoid exercising when the sun is at its hottest.

If you have an underlying medical condition, you may want to wear an alert band whenever you're outdoors. Wearing an alert band gives others the chance to offer appropriate medical assistance if you fall unwell. It can also be useful for paramedics if you have an accident while exercising away from home.

With a varied approach to how you manage your health, you can keep your mind and body healthy during the summer. Always remember to stay up to date with the latest national health advice, too.
